Samuel Marsden performed New Zealand's first Christian sermon here at Rangihoua Bay in 1814, and this is a memorial to that event. Apparently he claimed to have brought "tidings of great joy". New Zealand's first Tui ad: Tidings of great joy? Yeah, right!
