Kata Tjuta (The Olgas)

Watching the sun set over Kata Tjuta is an awesome experience - especially when the full Moon rises at the same time. Getting the exposure right in these situations can be tricky. I used my usual spot metering technique while previewing the display on the digitial camera to get this one perfect.

On this occasion the overall exposure has to be a compromise, because of the deep shadow in the foreground and the still sunlit tops of the mountains. Getting the Moon right is also surprisingly difficult. The colour in this photo is partciularly nice - not just the red of the rocks, but also the contrasting blue of the sky.
