Stewart Island: Mollymawk

There are plenty os seabirds around Stewart island including the mollymawk, a medium sized variety of albatross. The name "mollymawk" is a German version of two Dutch words meaning "foolish gull". Seems a bit unkind!

I used a fairly long lens to get this photo (about 200-300 mm) but there was plenty of light around so I could use a short shutter speed. The birds do float on the air currents too so they are fairly still which makes getting sharp photo like this a bit easier.
