Foreign Aid

Entry 47, on 2004-08-30 at 16:18:10 (Rating 1, News)

I heard in the news today that a poll of 750 New Zealanders showed an increased number (5% more since the last survey) wanting to continue New Zealand's foreign aid, especially in the Pacific.

In these times of security fears, and even xenophobia, as a result of terrorist attacks and misguided American responses I think this is an excellent sign that at least New Zealand still has some generosity and common sense.

I hope we can continue to be an example of how a small country can make a positive contribution to the world, and I hope our participation in the clean up of Iraq and Afghanistan isn't interpreted as supporting the countries who were involved in the wars there.
