Maori PM Debate

Entry 139, on 2023-01-22 at 08:13:25

A debate about the value of a Maori PM: "Still no Maori Prime Minister: Te Pati Maori express disappointment. Te Pati Maori: lack of Maori leadership contenders disappointing."

Me Unfortunately, Maori politicians have now been linked with divisiveness, lack of accountability, and rejection of democracy. If Labour had a Maori leader it really would be the end for them (it is already, anyway).

Other social media users reaction to my comment: 184 agree, 4 disagree.

Supporter Yes I agree.

Supporter Totally agree. Not that long ago the most outspoken Maori MP stated "When we have control of the water, we have total control of Aotearoa." Is that what Labour wants from a leader? Jacindarella didn't even council him as to his divisive comments. And the Maori Party wants a Maori PM? FFS.

Opponent You assume his opinion was not pointed out as contentious?

Supporter For goodness sake get off the Maori train. The PM should be selected on the best person for the job not on race, even forbid they are supposed to lead a country not a race, which appears is what you want.

Opponent Utter BS - the racist profiling of Maori leadership by racist thinkers - I look at Pakeha leadership as greedy, land grabbing, colonising, dishonest pedos. Is that close to a description?

I have to be honest here: I' really not sure whose side this person was on, or really what they were trying to say!

Me Well, you are entitled to your opinion, I guess.

Opponent Its fact.

Opponent You'd even say that about Jacinda? Oh no evil colonizers. Always the word of the day, pedos is a new one mind you. But I think you need a chill pill.

Me Everyone thinks their opinions are facts. They can't all be right.

Supporter Very true.

Supporter For goodness sake get off the Maori train. The PM should be selected on the best person for the job not on race, even forbid they are supposed to lead a country not a race, which appears is what you want.

I think the vast majority of people disagree with identity politics, like the wish some people have to appoint leaders based on race, gender, etc. To me it's obviously the wrong thing to do, but it does happen.
