Sonoma Compatibility

MacOS 14 Sonoma is a free update for Apple Mac computers, released in September 2023. These Mac models are supported...

MacBook Air: 2018 and later.
MacBook Pro: 2018 and later.
Mac Mini: 2018 and later.
iMac: 2019 and later.
iMac Pro: 2017 and later.
Mac Pro: 2019 and later.
Mac Studio: 2022 and later.

How to Install It

Important Note 1: If you are running any software which you suspect might not be compatible with the new system, do not do this update until you check with the developer. Note that this should not be a common problem.

Important Note 2: You might want to run a backup first, just in case something goes wrong, although this is very unusual with modern OS updates. A Time Machine backup onto an external hard disk is probably the best and easiest option. Note that the first backup could take a long time, depending on the amount of data you have, and the speed of the drive.

To download the update, click on the Apple menu, then click System Settings, then General, then Software Update, then Update (or Upgrade) Now. Note, this assumes you are running Ventura. For older systems use "System Preferences" instead.
