Bungy Bridge

This is the site of the world's first commercial bungy jump. Bungy jumping was pioneered in New Zealand, mainly by A.J. Hackett, the operator of this and other jumps in the area. The old bridge isn't used for traffic any more but it makes a great platform to jump the 43 meters (about 140 feet) to the river below. You do get a bungy cord tied around your feet, of course! Last time we went past I was ready to jump but the queue was too long - maybe next time!

This photo was an electronic version from a CDROM made from print film by a photo processor. Its fairly sharp and has good color saturation. I think the background is too busy and detracts from the foreground too much - maybe I should have deliberately blurred the scrub on the hill behind by using a wider aperture.
